(WDNG) – Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Administrator Mac Gipson on Thursday announced a plan to close or consolidate at least 15 ABC stores statewide after lawmakers cut more than $5.5 million from the board budget. No Calhoun County stores will be affected but the ABC store in Guntersville was included in the list.
Gipson says the closings will take between three and six months to go into effect and that efforts will be made to transfer affected employees to other stores.
The Alabama Legislature last month approved a General Fund budget that included deep cuts to many state agencies. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency this week announced 31 satellite driver’s license examination offices will be closed due to budget cuts. A division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs also announced this week that their surplus property division will be consolidated to a single warehouse in Montgomery.
