Police investigate second Anniston homicide of 2015

(WDNG) – Three weeks after Anniston police made an arrest in the city’s first homicide of the year, authorities have now launched an investigation into a fatal Saturday morning shooting.

Police say Antonio Dujuan Billingsley, 28, of Anniston was found in a car on Wilmer Avenue near East 29th Street early Saturday morning suffering from gunshot wounds. A statement from Anniston Police Department Capt. Allen George says officers were notified of shots fired and one person injured about 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning.

Billingsley was taken by ambulance to Regional Medical Center where he later died, according to the statement.

The death of Billingsley is the second homicide investigation by the Anniston Police Department in 2015, according to George. Police last month arrested Anthony Tyrone Jackson for the Jan. 24 stabbing death of Ronald Young, 37, of Anniston.

City officials last month said the overall crime rate in Anniston declined by more than 24 percent over the past two years. Homicide rates between 2011 and 2014 fell by 64 percent, according to information from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Homicide rates between 2006 and 2014 fell by almost 86 percent.
