Alabama joins investigation of Volkswagen after company admitted to fraud

(WDNG) – Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange says the state has joined more than two dozen other states in a probe investigating whether the German automaker intentionally designed their vehicles to thwart emissions regulations and mislead customers. Strange says his office takes allegations of consumer fraud very seriously and will review the representations made by Volkswagen to its diesel customers in the state.

Volkswagen has admitted to rigging 11 million vehicles worldwide to be able to pass diesel emissions tests. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn stepped down on Wednesday amid the growing scandal and on Friday the company named Porche’s Matthias Müller as interim CEO.
