State officials to recognize adoptive parents of international children

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill and Gov. Robert Bentley will commemorate the first Alabama International Adoption Celebration in Montgomery on Thursday. According to a Tuesday statement from the Secretary of State’s office, Alabama families who have gone through the process of adopting children from other countries in 2014 will be recognized for their philanthropy and will also receive a special certificate of recognition.

According to information from the Bureau of Consular Affairs, almost 170 international children were adopted by Alabama families in 2013. The Alabama International Adoption Celebration will be held on Thursday, January 29, at 2 p.m. in the Old House Chamber of the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery.
